Cabaret Collection
I am drawn to working with images and themes that stir the emotions. One of the subjects closest to me is the vanished yet still remarkably vivid and tangible world of old Montmartre—the extraordinary era when this legendary place was taking shape and coming into its own.
It was a time that gave birth to unforgettable images and characters that have inspired generations of artists and poets. The spirited young women who made their living in Montmartre and became part of its very soul; the artists’ studios, theaters, cafés, taverns, and cabarets—all of this came together in my desire to create the first sculpture.
I imagined a figure that would be vivid and colorful, with a distinct character and temperament of her own. The project captivated me so completely that one sculpture soon grew into an entire series of works, which I called Cabaret.
Through this collection, I began to develop an approach I think of as sculptural painting—a meeting of sculpture, color, texture, and painterly expression that allows the individual character and personality of each work to emerge more fully.
Each character is, to some extent, a grotesque—a theatrical and poetic figure endowed with a distinctive personality and style of its own.
Every artwork is unique, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, formally named, and personally signed by the artist.
